A global city is a conversation between many languages at once. In such a place, cultural preservation cannot rely on isolation; it depends on hospitality.
Our cultural programme is built around participation: sessions on Arabic calligraphy and geometry, discussions of majlis etiquette and hospitality traditions, and educational visits to heritage districts organised independently by our organisation.
Members frequently arrive from other traditions entirely. What they take away is not a souvenir but a working literacy — an understanding of why a courtyard is oriented as it is, why a pattern repeats without a centre, why a greeting takes its time.
Cultural exchange, in our reading, is reciprocal. It asks visitors to learn, and it asks hosts to explain.
